CLEVELAND - Lee Munster (84kg) won the 2011 FILA Junior Men's Freestyle Tournament held on April 10. He led a group of eight current and former Overtime wrestlers who competed at the event, four of whom placed in the top six. Munster went 6-0 en route to the title, with four of the six victories coming by shutout and only his finals match going to a third period. Munster just completed his first year of college wrestling for the Northwestern Wildcats, where he took a red-shirt.
Nick Dardanes (60kg) also reached the finals without losing a period. He lost a close 1-1, 1-0 match for the championship. Dardanes, who went 4-1 on the day, red-shirted in his first year of wrestling for the Minnesota Golden Gophers this past season.
Joining his Wildcat teammate on the medal stand was Alex Polizzi (96kg), who went 4-2 en route to a fourth place finish at the tournament. Polizzi also red-shirted this past season, his first as a college athlete.
Sam Brooks (84kg) fought to a sixth place finish, compiling a 4-3 record that included a pair of victories by fall. Brooks, a current Overtime student, is a junior at Oak Park River Forest High School .
Also competing at the event were Pat Greco (66kg), Joe Brewster (70kg), Nick Proctor (79kg), and Bobby Barnhisel (74kg). Greco, another first-year red-shirt for Northwestern University , went 3-2. Brewster and Proctor, freshmen wrestlers for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and the Michigan State Spartans, respectively, each ended the day with a 2-2 record. Barnhisel, a sophomore at the Naval Academy , went 2-2, including one win by fall and one win by tech fall.
The FILA Junior division is open to wrestlers born from 1991-1994. The ten weight classes at the FILA Junior division for men are 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 84kg, 96kg, and 120kg.
